New Year’s Resolution That Could Transform Your Career?
The time for New Year’s resolutions is approaching, along with countless life-changing plans. Most of these plans focus on the body: lose weight, start running, go to the gym. But what if I told you that regular physical activity could not only be the key to better health but also to advance your career?
Sounds like something straight out of a coach’s manual? Maybe so, but there are hard facts behind this claim, as cited by Jackson Roatch.
How Movement Supports Your Brain and Career
Our lifestyle has changed dramatically – people used to be in constant motion, but today most of us spend 8 hours a day at a desk. This is not natural for our bodies, and lack of movement leads to a higher risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. But you’re probably already aware of this.
What might surprise you is that regular exercise impacts your brain.
👉 Neuroplasticity: Physical activity boosts the production of BDNF (a protein that supports neuron growth), helping us learn faster and retain information better. Thanks to movement, I still remember this fact from my neuropsychology studies to this day. 😉
👉 Decision-making: Better blood flow to the brain means better concentration and faster decision-making.
👉 Stress resistance: Intense exercise helps us disconnect from work and recover mentally more effectively.
Results Matter
Studies show that only 28% of Poles meet the recommended physical activity guidelines, but regular movement is not just about health:
Healthier = more effective (and better earning): Research suggests that people in better physical shape perform better at work and earn more in the long run.
Small investment, big effect: Even a 15-minute walk during lunch can improve concentration and reduce fatigue.
Why Start?
It’s not about running a marathon right away. It’s about starting. A small step, like a daily walk or a 20-minute run, could be the beginning of big changes. Consistency will turn effort into habit, and habit into a healthier version of you. I’ve written about my own fitness journey here, and I encourage you to read it.
Your Challenge for 2024
This year, instead of another ambitious plan you’ll abandon after two weeks, focus on one simple goal: move. Not for your appearance. For your health, better focus, and… your career.
And you? What are your plans for 2024? Share in the comments! 🚀

Generation Z is Refraining from Mid-Level Management Positions. Why?
Why do 57% of Generation Z employees say “no” to traditional career paths? For many of them, mid-level management positions are associated with stress, low pay relative to responsibilities, and the risk of burnout.
This is a serious challenge for companies. Mid-level managers are crucial for organizations—they bridge strategic decisions with the day-to-day actions of teams. What can be done when the new generation of employees isn’t interested in these positions?
How to Encourage Generation Z?
👉 Offer more autonomy—such as flexible project management.
👉 Promote work-life balance, rather than glorifying overtime.
👉 Provide a sense of purpose—show that their role truly impacts the company’s growth.

How Tesla Attracts and Retains Talent
Tesla uses an unconventional compensation strategy, offering its employees lower base salaries than competitors, but compensating for this with large stock options. This approach aims to motivate long-term commitment to the company’s success, aligning employees’ interests with Tesla’s performance. As a result, instead of a guaranteed salary, employees have the chance to significantly increase their earnings if the company succeeds.
The stock option system carries risks, as employees may lose potential gains if the stock value drops. However, if the company grows, employees benefit as well. This type of compensation is implemented through long-term stock vesting schedules, which incentivize employees to stay with the company for several years.
Offering stock options instead of a high base salary is a strategy that can help companies attract and retain key employees, particularly if the company has strong growth potential.
Effective Communication
Effective communication is the key to success in any organization. Here are 5 tips that can significantly improve your communication skills:
- Listen before you speak. Active listening is the foundation of every conversation. Before offering a solution, make sure you fully understand the other party’s needs. In recruitment, this may mean carefully listening to what the candidate is truly looking for, rather than steering the conversation in a particular direction.
- Choose the right communication channel. Every situation requires a different tool:
- Email: Great for formal information or longer explanations.
- Slack/Teams: Ideal for urgent questions.
- Meetings: Necessary for discussing complex issues.
- Speak clearly and visually. Whether you’re explaining technical specifications or presenting your company, simple language and visuals (e.g., diagrams or charts) will enhance the clarity of your message.
- Ask the right questions. Instead of closed questions like “Do you understand this point?”, ask open-ended questions: “What suggestions do you have for improving this process?” This fosters a deeper conversation and provides better insight into the other person’s needs.
- Apply the pyramid principle. When writing emails, start with the most important point: “Urgent project update – deadline moved to Wednesday.” Only then, provide the context. This way, the recipient immediately knows what’s crucial, and they can absorb the details in the next step.

Is remote work the future, or is it already the present? Atlassian proves that it can be more than just a “benefit.” Through their Team Anywhere model, for over 1,000 days, their employees have been deciding for themselves where they work—from home, the office, or any place in the world.

What about the challenges?
How to manage time zone differences? Atlassian has implemented clearly defined goals (OKRs) and optimized the way asynchronous teams work. Integration meetings and dedicated remote tools have improved the sense of community within the company by 27%.
What can we learn from this?
It’s not about where you work, but how you create the conditions for effective collaboration. Atlassian shows that flexibility is not just a trendy add-on—it’s a strategy for the future of work, especially in the face of demographic challenges and global competition for talent.
